The James Hutton Institute appoints Business Cost Consultants to manage energy and water services

Business Cost Consultants (BCC), one of the UK’s leading independent utility consultants, today announced that they will be providing energy and water services to The James Hutton Institute for their two main sites in Aberdeen in Dundee. This will facilitate The Institute to reduce electricity, gas and water costs and fully comply with their Carbon Reduction Commitment requirements.
The James Hutton Institute brings together the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute and the Scottish Crop Research Centre, as well as employs about 600 scientists, researchers and supporting staff. The institute, which is the first of its type in Europe, is part of the £3.5 million of research funding pledged by Scottish Government to link science and business and strengthen the economic recovery of Scotland.
Improving crop yields, developing sustainable farming methods, creating a low carbon economy and supporting biodiversity are the main goals of the James Hutton Institute. BCC’s appointment will contribute to The Institute’s main commitments by helping to understand and reduce energy consumption.
Business Cost Consultants will carry out a full audit of The Institute’s energy and water consumption and costs and then highlight areas for potential savings.
For over a decade Business Cost Consultants has been helping organisations reduce electricity, gas, water and telecoms costs by analysing the complex energy and utility markets, providing expert procurement services and recovering overpayments. BCC also have a wealth of experience in helping clients reduce overall consumption.
Donald Maclean, Managing Director at Business Cost Consultants said, “We have considerable experience of helping organisations reduce water consumption and costs. One of our biggest successes was reducing Rangers Football Club’s water consumption by over 70%. So we are confident that we can make The James Hutton Institute significant savings and look forward to working with them”.
