Shelter is a UK-wide charity that offers help on housing issues and homelessness. The organisation was founded in 1966 by Reverend Bruce Kenrick, who was appalled at the conditions in the tenements which surrounded his Notting Hill Parish. Shelter’s constant lobbying has lead to significant legislative change in recent years; for example, the introduction of the Tenancy Deposit Scheme in England and Gordon Brown’s commitment to a new era of homebuilding in England. Shelter Scotland picked up the Campaign of the Year award 2008, for its campaign targeting the government to build 30,000 new homes for rent over a three year period.
Business Cost Consultants Secure Savings For Housing Charity
Shelter got in touch with Business Cost Consultants through our website enquiry section. It was their wish to outsource the management of their utilities, with 55 offices throughout the UK. This was a significant and time-consuming operation for Shelter’s facilities team. By engaging Business Cost Consultants to manage their billing, staff at Shelter could focus more attention on their core operational objectives.
Before BCC were engaged, Shelter had most of their sites with one supplier, but they were having issues with the billing and some of the accounts were with other suppliers. Once Shelter signed up with BCC, they started to benefit from our billing management service where we take the time and hassle off their hands and reduce the administration burden for them, as well as keeping the costs down.
BCC put the contracts out to tender, comparing quotes from the whole market. We managed to secure a particularly good deal in relation to the renewal offer from their incumbent supplier. Therefore, our procurement service resulted in a 31% saving on their electricity costs.
In this case, not only did Business Cost Consultants take the time-consuming and often frustrating task of managing utility bills off Shelter’s hands, they also managed to secure a significant saving on their electricity going forward.
“BCC have met and exceeded our expectations by providing a highly professional, transparent and specialised service. Their level of expertise and industry knowledge is immense and they have not only managed to achieve large savings for Shelter, with respect to our electricity portfolio in what was a very tough market, but have also greatly streamlined the bill validation and payment process for us. BCC continue to provide the high levels of customer service, account management and consistency which are synonymous with their richly deserved reputation.” — Andy Christophi (Head of Facilities, Shelter)
