Investigation of water issues at Ibrox stadium leads to dramatic savings
Shortly after Business Cost Consultants were engaged as the utility consultants for one of Scotland’s leading football clubs, they mentioned they were having issues with water pressure and flow on match days.
Solution
We sent in our water specialist to investigate the water systems and identify the source of the problems. As well as working closely with the on-site facilities team, our expert installed data loggers on to the water meters so that we could monitor the consumption and flow on a 24/7 basis. The detailed survey and the information from the loggers helped us to identify several issues, which were quickly resolved.
Business Cost Consultants had their water specialist investigate the water usage at Rangers’ main stadium at Ibrox, Glasgow and their nearby training ground. The smart data loggers enabled us to remotely monitor the water consumption.
Our experts then analysed the data, which showed the volume of water being consumed every half hour.
As a result of the data logging, we also identified that the consumption was higher than expected and there were some inefficiencies in how the water was being used. Business Cost Consultants presented the client with a full report, detailing our findings and recommendations. The Facilities Manager made use of the high-quality information in the report to be able to make better informed decisions.

Result
As a result of the advice from our water specialist, Business Cost Consultants successfully reduced the water consumption at Ibrox stadium by more than 65% and water pressure problems were eliminated. Rangers Football Club will continue to benefit from the financial savings (over £100,000 per annum), as a result of reduced water consumption and waste water charges, long into the future. We believe that further water savings are possible and will be working closely with them on a rainwater harvesting project.
