The European Union Energy Performance of Buildings Directive was published in the Official Journal on the 4th January 2003. The objective of the Directive is to highlight awareness of energy use in buildings and is intended to lead to substantial increases in investments in energy efficiency measures within those buildings.

The Energy Performance Directive will be implemented in several ways. These will include:

  • The introduction of the European Performance Directive’s agreed measurements of relative energy performance.

  • Improving standards for new buildings.
