Business Cost Consultants (“BCC”), one of the leading utility consultants in the UK, has been working with James B Stephen and Dermot J Power (of BDO LLP, the world’s fifth largest accountancy organisation), in their capacity as Joint Administrators of McKever Hotels East Limited, McKever Hotels South Limited, Access Accommodation Services Limited and McKever 99 Limited (“The Group”) to slash energy costs.
The Group, formerly one of the country’s largest privately owned hotel groups, with a nationwide chain of more than 20 hotels, apartments and hostels, went into administration in 2009. The Joint Administrators engaged BCC to help carry out a review of The Group’s energy costs, which included 14 electricity supplies and 9 gas supplies, highlighting potential savings of more than £300,000 across the electricity and gas expenditure.
BCC helped to secure an extremely competitive contract for the supply of gas making savings of over 33%. The Glasgow based company also secured a rebate of over £35,000 on behalf the client by ensuring that the contract was backdated to June 2009, the date The Group went into administration. Similarly, a competitive contract for the supply of electricity was secured making savings of around £190,500 per annum (49%) as well as a rebate of around £114,000. The sites that remain in administration continue to make ongoing savings.
BCC, whose client list includes Apex Hotels Ltd, Cala Homes, Celtic Football Club, Rangers Football Club, The Morris Furniture Group, Shelter and many more public and private organisations throughout the UK, continue to work closely with the Joint Administrators of The Group to help them make well-informed decisions about their energy costs and consumption.
BCC MD Donald Maclean says “This is a very specialised area. BCC are one of the few companies in the UK to tackle such complex issues and lengthy negotiations with suppliers when a company with multiple sites goes into administration.”
BCC have also recently appointed former M&C Energy International Sales Manager, Don Allan, as Sales Development Manager.
Allan brings with him over 20 years experience in leadership roles across a range of disciplines including communications, sales & publishing adding to the existing expertise at the Glasgow-based firm as they move into a period of rapid growth. During his time at M&C Allan was responsible for bringing in clients that collectively spent almost half a billion pounds on their energy, water and telecoms.
