Dispute with Energy Suppliers on the Rise

Most organisations, regardless of size or industry sector, will experience at least one dispute with utility suppliers. However, despite the recessionary pressures on businesses, energy companies are increasingly raising historic invoices and demanding payment within a short timescale.
“It is definitely fair to say that the number of disputes between businesses and their energy suppliers has increased in recent times. This could be attributed to suppliers retrospectively examining their accounts from previous years, as they will be under pressure to settle their own debts” says Donnie Maclean of Business Cost Consultants.
“Energy companies must be aware that they hold so much power and can cause businesses to go bust if they demand large payments, which have not been budgeted for. In my opinion, energy companies are not helping businesses” said the Director of the family-owned utility consultancy.
It is unsurprising that such disputes arise given the complexity of bills and the jargon used by suppliers. These disputes can often lead to complex negotiations lasting months or even years. The fact of the matter is; many businesses do not have the time or expertise needed to resolve such disputes.
In the news this week, energy regulator, Ofgem, has urged suppliers to up their game in complaint handling as consumer research found less than one in four customers were satisfied with the way complaints had been dealt with.
As part of their utility management services, Business Cost Consultants have the expertise, knowledge and contacts to tackle these disputes with suppliers on behalf of their clients.
The dispute resolution service from Business Cost Consultants is a rapidly growing part of their business. They work directly with clients as well as with lawyers, accountants and administrators, negotiating with the suppliers for the best result.
